50 Squares to Goal is a competitive cyberpunk racing and tactical strategy board game set inside the Octal Tank—a reactive digital firewall controlled by the Axioma Consortium. Through a modified U-X1 bionic interface, players tap into the bio-telepathic frequencies connecting Nayra and her enhanced axolotls, competing along independent concentric tracks to breach the central system terminal located at Square 50.
To bypass Axioma’s surveillance and keep The Grid Decoy security protocol from discovering the intrusion, the runners must execute the "Noise Storm" protocol. Players deliberately clash and sabotage one another across the grid, generating layers of white-noise interference that blind the system's defenses. Movement is dictated by standard dice rolls, balanced by managing a four-slot inventory of tactical digital attacks, defensive shields, and high-risk luck commands whose effects can drastically propel or penalize runners based on variable die outcomes.
Strategic interaction is constant: players set persistent traps on standard spaces, initiate head-to-head duels, and trigger chain reactions to disrupt rival paths while pushing their own axolotl forward. As mental confusion from Axioma's counter-measures creeps in, maintaining lane stability and timing tactical card plays becomes essential to surviving the cybernetic run.
Beyond the classic race, the game includes asymmetric modular modes such as "DNA Synchrony", giving each runner unique passive traits, "Toxic Tide", a sudden-death survival countdown, and "The Will of Nayra". In this premier variant, a fifth player steps in as Game Master to govern board tension, manipulate card draws, and introduce unpredictable system hazards, turning the race into an intense, narrative-driven showdown.
