Bong Hit 99 is a cannabis-themed counting game for 2 to 8 players, played with one standard 52-card deck and a printable rulebook that includes reference cards. It grew from a folk counting game called "99," played in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1993. The slide, the bonus hit, Loading Duty, and the backfire were added at that table and in the years after.
Each player holds four cards. On your turn you play one, call out the new total (the Count), and draw. Most cards add their face value to the Count, Kings jump it to 99, and if every card you hold would push it past 99, you're out of the hand.
At exactly 99 the special cards wake up. Twos and nines pass, a ten drops the Count to 89, and the Queen of Spades becomes the Death Card, which knocks out the next player unless they shield with the Ace of Diamonds. A two-player game has its own gentler Death Card rule.
The last player standing wins the hand and the prize. Then everyone reveals their endgame hand: an eliminated player holding the Ace of Clubs steals the prize, and it can slide down a run of clubs to anyone at the table.
