Island tribes: Historical Strategic game is a block-building game for 1 to 3 players.
It simulates the long settlement of the island of Great Britain over 2,500 years, culminating in the conquest by William the Conqueror. Solo games are fully regulated (unlike a game where you play alone simply because there are no other players).
Great Britain is inhabited by indigenous people when the first colonizers arrive. The game begins by randomly determining the composition of this indigenous population, which will be either playable or neutral. In solo mode, the human player faces the neutral factions, whose actions are governed by the rules. During a game, a player may, depending on the circumstances, merge their people with another regionally present group, or they can abandon their current people, who then join the neutral faction, to take command of a new invading force. The goal is to dominate the largest part of the island. But this is a slow and long-term process.
There are no set scenarios per se: the game is designed so that you can start at any of the 22 chronological periods (equivalent to 20 scenarios, as starting after 1200 wouldn’t make much sense). The random selection of native blocks at the beginning of each game is also fundamentally a source of diversity. Thanks to these two factors, the variety of games, despite the fairly simple local rivalry mechanisms common in block-building games, is very rich. Replayability is therefore very high.
