The players are leaving a party, and are trying to arrange the Japanese katakana cards サ, ヨ, ナ, and ラ in their hand to spell "sayonara", but there's only one サ, and players may not rearrange their cards.
On your turn you draw a card, add it into your hand, and then discard a card, sometimes using a card's effect to shift other players' cards or take something from the discard.
A round ends when someone says "sayonara", when the deck is exhausted, or when someone cancels a "sayonara" with three matching ラ cards. The first player to win three rounds wins the game.
