Nuru-Nuru Mountain Gorilla is a party game built on Japanese onomatopoeia. Twelve onomatopoeia cards are laid out in a 3x4 grid, and one further card is placed beside them word side up as the Theme - for example, "Mountain Gorilla."
One player takes the role of the Leader and secretly draws a card from the box; a mark on its back shows which of the twelve onomatopoeia is the answer. The Leader then says the Theme word aloud in the manner of that onomatopoeia: slimy NURU-NURU, prickly TOGE-TOGE, sluggish DARA-DARA. The other players may agree on one question and ask it together, and then on a count of three they all point at the onomatopoeia they believe the Leader was using.
Each player who points correctly scores 1 point, and the Leader scores 1 point for every correct guesser. If every player guesses correctly the Leader scores an additional point, and if no one guesses correctly the Leader loses a point.
After each round the answer card is discarded, the Theme card is flipped into the empty space, and the card the Leader drew becomes the new Theme. Play continues until everyone has been the Leader once, and the player with the most points wins. The game contains 31 onomatopoeia.
