Each player in Square Link takes a turn clockwise placing chips onto a grid. There are 6 varieties of player pieces each color has access to but limited in quantity. The trick to using these chips is enemy colors can never touch and the colors must connect on your adjacent placements. This creates several places you cannot play quickly as the board fills up. If a group of 3 exists with your color present, you can play on corners when normally you can only place orthogonally.
Some of the best ways to claim points for victory is to add the last piece to a cluster of 8. Groups of adjacent tiles cannot be 9 or more chips. Points will also be rewarded for majority of adjacent color present. It is possible you might have to pass your turn if you cannot play. Left over chips in your hand will cost you points at the end of the game. You also have to play if you can, even if it messes your strategy up. End game triggers when all players cannot play.
There is expert scoring as an alternative to standard. This adds 4 additional ways to accumulate points and increase player interaction even further.
