In Staustelle, two players compete over a highway construction site represented by a 5×5 grid. During the first phase, they play construction cards to build and modify the site and place scoring markers on the grid. During the second phase, each player's worker starts in the central construction yard. Players can add higher-value construction machinery to upgrade their own roadworks, while movement symbols on cards require them to move their worker exactly one space horizontally or vertically. When a worker enters a space, all scoring markers there are removed, regardless of owner. Certain road sections protect scoring markers from workers. Players must therefore balance improving their own construction sites against disrupting their opponent's. The game ends immediately when the final inspection occurs. Each scoring marker a player still has on the grid is worth 1 point, and the player with the most points wins.
